This is an interesting way to introduce the idea of reflection to the students instead of writing a lengthy article.

Through this online video, I have a better understanding of what a reflection is. I am now more aware about what I have been doing , which are correct and which are not. I am also more sensitive to what is to be included in a reflection.

I found the defination of reflection is more critical than I have ever thought before. I should do more "real" reflection after reading.

kailing said...

i learnt about writing reflection using technology. reflection should not summarize the readings but have to develop our own critical thinking skills

changjie said...

I have a clearer idea of what reflection is. I realize I have not been doing the right thing all along the way...

It is good way to share idea, daily lives to share with friends.

I learnt that reflection is not a summary of what we have read but is what we think we have learnt from reading it. The podcast also let me know that we should try to relate what we have learnt to everyday usage.

Sijia said...

It is a way to help us connect ourselves to what is happening around us.
but it's hard to maintain the habit!

The post gives me an idea on how reflections can be written. Not just by paper and pen, but using many others ways. It is a very interesting way, and i believe people would be much more interested in reading such reflections.

Simple yet an impactful way of teaching the audience on What is and what is not a reflection and the Do's and Dont's. It definitely help in arousing awareness.

A good introduction to students before they are task to do reflection on their blogs.

JuicING said...

so now i noe what is meant by writing reflections...its not abt telling a tell-tale story...but more of asking yourself the credibility of the topic and how much one agrees or disagrees on it...

=)

Reflection really helps in making a common understanding between each other. It also provides a domain for exchanging of ideas for everyone.

Very explicit explanation with step-by-step instructions on how to write a reflection! :)

I used to think that since reflection is personal, I could use language which is, well, personal. After hearing this podcast, I realised that reflection is more than personal views. It is also about taking a stance or view on a particular topic or talking point.

Sum@ said...

very interesting... a detailed information abt reflection. i'll definitlt use these pointers when doing my reflection for my assignments.

I agree that is podcast is very useful, however, i think that we would have to modify some of the terms to suit our target audience when training them to write reflections.

Reflection actually helps in the development of higher order thinking skills because of the need for the writer to analyse and add in his opinions.

Very informative video to highlight the aims of reflection and good scaffolds on how one should do a reflection - questions to ask oneself.

A very interesting podcast, well done. Even though it only talks on "Reflection", perhaps the next one could be a podcast on using WebBlogs for reflection. :>

Carolyn Peh said...

A reflection is useful as it helps in developing our own ideas and thoughts about a task that we have done or learnt. It serves us further thinking, agreements or disagreements and a a concrete idea or understanding about the task.

Mohd Faisal said...

Reflection is done after having seen or read something and analysing it in a critical and sustained manner.
Every effort should be made to carefully evaluate or even question the author's assumptions and whether arguments are valid and sound.
It should also be a trigger point for generating one's own response to the issue put forth.
This video clip beautifully summarises all these. Great work!

I've learnt that reflections can help one to be more critical, adding our own thoughts and analysis.

And one thing that hit me is that if i agree or disagree with what was written, i have to state my point of view.
I too need to quesiton myself if the reading made me question or think about anything else related. I realised that this is something that i used to lack in my own reflections..

The Magician said...

A very comprehensive aid for writing a reflection.

However, do we really need to use formal language in a reflection? Why can't a casual conversation be a reflection? I believe that we still can have a constructive conversation that can be used as a reflection. Can we use an After Action Review (AAR) as a reflection?

mary anne said...

..the PODCast was very informative in such a way that it talks about the do's and dont's of writing a reflection. two thumbs up!!..

I thought that reflection is a boring task to do maybe because I didn't really understood what is it's importance before. But having learned its advantage..well, i think i'm going to use it in my future class..(",)It makes my mind think about things i'm thinking. This podcast is helpful in a way of giving the necessary ideas in writing a good reflection. Well done!

Thanks for sharing such a helpful video!

it really explained the importance of a reflection and the "HOW" (of writing it)in ABSOLUTE clarity!

thanks alot for your contribution!=)

I always thought that doing reflection is merely a reiterating process, which involves drawing back on the knowledge or information learnt, and assessing how much it benefits us. But after viewing this podcast, i realized reflection is not regurgitating but coming up with new thoughts and analysis. I suppose that would truly add new insights to what we have learnt and internalise the knowledge, thereby translating to a effective learning process.

After watching this podcast on wirting reflection, it gives me a more in depth lesson on the mistakes that usually occur during writing of reflections, because I always thought reflections is to reflect what we have learn and such but it is also a platform to generate new ideas and also develop questioning skills where new questions are generated while writing thier reflections.

This is very useful for people who want to start writing reflections. It tells us how and what to write for a reflection, what are the areas we need to look out for. It is very interesting to know that other showing learners whats reflection through power-point slides, one can also shows it through video which benefit the visual and audio learners even better. I find it more interesting and engaging as compared to the one which was carried out through power-point slides. Animations and pictures were seen which help to attract students attention. I find that its a very good way to carry out one lesson. Reflection is very beneficial to students which helps them to ponder and think what they had learn.

Jolene said...

To be able to reflect after a lesson allows both the students and teachers to process what had just been taught during the lesson. Students would be able to know which parts they do not understand. Teachers would know how to improve on conducting their lessons.

I used to think that reflections are boring and just a way to show teachers our understanding in the topic. However, through this podcast I learned about how reflection can be of use and the right way to write a reflection. This would definitely benefit me in my teaching career in future.
